The Swissalpine is a renowned trail-running festival set in the picturesque region of Flims Laax, Switzerland. This is one of the oldest trail race series in the Alps, and has recently been relaunched in a new region.
The Flims Laxx area is known for its breathtaking landscapes, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sardona and the dramatic Rhine Gorge. The event’s premier race, the K82, is 81.9 kilometers long with an elevation gain 4,192 meters. Runners embark on a journey that passes the turquoise waters of Lake Cauma, traverses serene forests, and ascends challenging alpine terrain, providing a tour of the region’s beauty.
For those seeking a mid-distance challenge, the K43 covers 42.7 kilometers with 1,765 meters of elevation gain. This marathon-length course also includes the enchanting Lake Cauma and tranquil woodland paths.
The K16 offers a shorter route of 15.8 kilometers, featuring a significant gain of 1,103 meters. Participants are treated to views of Lake Cauma and continue through the peaceful surroundings leading up to the Segneshütte, one of the oldest mountain huts in the region.
The K14 is a 14.1-kilometer trail with a moderate 415 meters of elevation gain. This route combines natural scenery with gentler trails, making it an excellent choice for newcomers or those looking for a gentler day out.
In addition to the trail running events, Swissalpine offers hiking options such as the H16 and H14, allowing non-trail runners to enjoy the majestic landscapes at a more leisurely pace.
