The village of Châtel in the Chablais region of south-eastern France – on the border with Switzerland – plays host to the Trail des Crêtes. You’ll be rewarded with a beautiful climb from the village of Vacheresse, then pass through bucolic pastureland, up to high mountain ridges and lakes. Choose your distance from ‘Expert’ (84 km), ‘Confirmed’ (49 km), ‘Engaged’ (35km) or ‘Discover’ (15 km). Or you can run either of the two longer distances in a relay.

In winter the area is famously transformed into part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, including linked villages and 650 km of ski runs. However, in the summer you will have alpine villages, pastures and a few steep ascents to tackle – but the aid stations will keep you going with their local products from the Haute-Savoie region of France!
