Haute Route, High Adventure!

Rating

This trip had it all – multi-star hotels and high mountain huts; flow-y high meadow trails with goats or cows, incredible glacial moraines, tarn lakes, and spectacular col crossings and mountain views every day; magic taxis & buses & gondolas when the legs needed them most; tarts, raclette, rösti, a 5-course meal or two, and terrific people – hikers, runners, hotel staff, old lady in the window with her cat wishing us ‘Courage!’, and old and new Run the Alps friends at the Hub!

Why

I wanted to explore the routes that extended beyond Chamonix into Switzerland and see if we could guide ourselves over more challenging terrain.

Advice

Have maps (Gaia GPS) that include all the trails and your route, so there is less confusion at intersections.

Highlight

A highlight - too many to limit to just one - was Verbier to the Cabane de Prafleuri. Sliding down the snowfields from the Col de Louvie on our bums and cheering other people we had only just met to 'just go for it!'
