Grachen Berglauf
Organized by the same team responsible for the Ultra Tour Monte Rosa (UTMR), the Grachen Berglauf is described as a “classic mountain run.” The small mountain town of Grachen in Switzerland’s Valais region is not as well know or popular as its neighbor, Zermatt. But, perched high above the valley, it offers stunning mountain views with quiet, technical and wild trails. It is not surprising that Race Directors Lizzy Hawker and Richard Bull choose this area for this race. They each spend a lot of each year in Nepal, and there are parts of this course that are Himalayan in feel. Running up to the Riedgletscher you find yourself surrounded by 4000m peaks and glaciers in every direction – it’s stunning!
Like the UTMR, this race has a “grassroots” feel to it. The community gets behind the race and if you come back, you’ll see the same volunteers each year. This is definitely a race to add to your calendar!
